Another comment posted here states that it is John's most poignant poem and I agree. This piece is a powerful antidote to the "usual" love poems we see during the Valentine's season.

LindaLinda Nemec Fosternoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-549963549429593969.post-64174649731724615412010-02-13T10:20:24.327-08:002010-02-13T10:20:24.327-08:00very moving

It's not fame or fortune or even romantic love, but simply being there for each other. That has its own ultimate dignity.oriananoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-549963549429593969.post-18925289145007806712010-02-11T14:13:17.306-08:002010-02-11T14:13:17.306-08:00Dear Michael, thanks for the kind words. Mr. Guzlowski's childhood must have been very painful -- in that he had to live with his parents' anguished memories and turbulent relationship with each other. But certainly the devotion that kept them together for 52 years is an accomplishment, albeit a rather terrifying one.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-549963549429593969.post-78733586179960762052010-02-11T12:07:19.660-08:002010-02-11T12:07:19.660-08:00I am very moved by this poem.
